Y'all wanna know why we don’t see or hear about trans people from that era?

That’s because that picture was taken at what is known in its native language as Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, it is the place where the first trans healthcare was developed, where the term transsexual was coined.

Do you want to know what happened to the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft?

It was the victim of the very first Nazi book burning. Their teachings were outlawed and their books destroyed. Their leaders - such as Magnus Hirschfeld - were criminalized and exiled, if not outright murdered.

The fascists exterminated not just a generation of trans people, but they erased our history from the books almost entirely. It took us almost a century to get back to where we are now.

We’ve always been here, but our future is not guaranteed. We have to fight for our survival, because it’s happening again.

I always recommend photography as a hobby to people w social anxiety bc not only is it an activity you can usually do in complete solitude, but it is also an activity that will force you to Abandon Shame from time to time in order to get the shot you want. Sometimes that includes crawling along the brambles and bushes on all fours after a critter, or absolutely eating shit on the side of a hill in full public view bc you are an idiot who decided that the one place you want to take a photo from is the most difficult spot to get to on foot, and sometimes it means laying face up w your giant lens pointed towards the sky at the Brooklyn Garden bc the cherry blossoms look best from this angle, babes.

Sometimes when I’m down, I remember that scene at a convention when Leonard Nimoy and De Kelley are reading fanfiction to the audience, and they pause at a scene to remember the destroyed Enterprise and place their hands over their hearts

and De does a double-take, skips over to Nimoy, and fixes his hand so it’s on his lower ribcage, where the vulcan heart actually is, and then goes back to his spot and remarks something like “I should know I’m his doctor” and continues on.

Lwaxana Troi is such an underrated character. This woman went through hell and came out confident, powerful, and bringing other people up. She’s funny, kind, fabulous, an intelligent diplomat, and a damn good single mom. Yes, she’s a little overprotective of Deanna but you’d be too if your first born died under your care and if your living daughter lived on a starship. She’s very good to Alexander and Odo. She’s so fabulous and both the TNG fandom and the DS9 fandom don’t give her enough love.

something else i really love about this pairing is the fact that the CMO is actually the only person who can meaningfully challenge the Captain’s authority under certain conditions, who can sometimes even override that authority completely. so on the surface it looks like sisko has all this power not only as commander but as an older man, and bashir is very aware of the fact that his commanding officer is to be respected, BUT his passion for medicine and science and justice and being an annoying know-it-all (affectionate) about those topics is so strong that it absolutely overrides any youthful deferentialness, such that even in S1 and 2 bashir is not afraid to challenge sisko on such matters, and he’s definitely not afraid of intervening in the captain’s healthcare when being the emissary starts to threaten his life. and i just think that’s such a NEAT dynamic to explore in the context of a romantic partnership and their respective roles as man of science/ man of spirit, person responsible for everyone’s safety/ person responsible for everyone’s health, older officer struggling to uphold the ideals he once took for granted/ younger officer absolutely brimming with idealistic fervor, emissary/augment, african american/african british, the list goes on but basically, the Captain and his CMO, that’s it that’s the tweet

siskoshir  I’m sorry for reblogging all your meta in one day but it’s SO GOOD
